RocCera Tetragonal Zirconia (RTZ) is the toughest ceramic known today. It is also known as “ceramic steel”. It is stronger than steel and has far superior wear and corrosion resistance properties. It is used in industrial cutters and slitters to process fiber, paper, film and polymeric webs. Also used as film and paper guide during slitting and perforating operation in Kodak. If properly designed and implemented, it can improve the service life 5 to 15 times (average service life is 15X in Kodak as compared to hardened 440C stainless steel).
RTZ Ceramic Applications
Food processing machine components - kneading rollers, knives, extrusion nozzles, and more
Utility Equipment - parts for snow plows, lawn mowers, earth movers
Wood carving tools - Ceramic rollers and guide rails for film perforating machines
Brackets and guides for dental x-ray film processing
Slitter knives for paper and film manufacturing
Micro-pump components for precision chemical delivery
Air bearings for high speed scanners
Cutting tools and inserts
Applications for alumina, alumina toughened zirconia (ATZ) and zirconia toughened alumina (ZTA)
Medical - chemical stability and bio-compatibility of ceramic is very useful
Industrial - pump and precision machine components, oil and gas production, chemical processing
